Public Official in Argentina Arrested for Allegedly Throwing Feces at Lawmaker's House

Arrest of Local Official in Buenos Aires

On Wednesday, law enforcement in Argentina apprehended Alexia Abaigal, a government official from the far left of Buenos Aires. This arrest followed an incident where she allegedly vandalized the residence of libertarian MP Jose Luis Espart, which included throwing excrement at the property.

Abaigal serves as the director in the Ministry of Diversity, focusing on women’s rights and awareness. Since 2019, she has held various positions in the local ministry. Buenos Aires, being the capital, operates independently from the state’s provincial governance with its own constitution and government branches, currently led by the socialist party under Axel Kicillof.

The office chaired by Abaigal promotes gender and sexual diversity rights. According to Argentine Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, her alleged actions are indicative of a larger issue regarding public safety and governance. On social media, Bullrich criticized the use of governmental resources for what she deemed criminal behavior, labeling Abaigal as a Kirchnerist extremist.

Earlier in the week, a group of masked individuals vandalized Espert’s home, damaging it further and leaving a flag that read, “It’s Espert Shit.” Espert is affiliated with the President Javier Milei’s party and serves as the head of the parliamentary budget committee. Security footage from the incident revealed the attackers were politically motivated, and Espert himself suggested the incident might be connected to his recent comments at a university event.

President Milei voiced his support, asserting that such threats wouldn’t deter their objectives. He expressed the need for accountability, insisting that those responsible must face consequences.

In light of recent political unrest, this incident adds to a growing list of violent acts connected to former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s supporters. After the Supreme Court upheld her prison sentence on corruption charges, left-wing groups reacted violently, including attacks on media outlets. Evidence has surfaced identifying individuals involved in these acts, which raises concerns about ongoing political tensions in Argentina.
