Russian President Vladimir Putin praised billionaire technology mogul Elon Musk in an interview with critic Tucker Carlson posted online Thursday.
“I don’t think you can stop Elon Musk,” Putin told Carlson after being asked by an expert about the growing adoption of artificial intelligence. “He will act as he sees fit. Still, you need to find common ground with him. Look for ways to persuade him. I think he is a smart person. I truly believe that he is. Therefore, we need to come to an agreement with him because this process has to be formalized and certain rules must be followed.”
Musk has been embroiled in controversy in recent months over his revamp of the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and his support for anti-Semitism and other unproven theories.
Musk owns several major media and technology companies and oversees a vast communications network vital to Ukraine’s fight against Russia.
Last year, President Putin called Musk an “outstanding person” after he admitted cutting off internet access from Starlink satellites during the raid on Ukraine.
Carlson also praised Musk’s handling of his work on X, the platform where he launched a new show after the former cable news host was fired from Fox News last April.
