Controversial Sermon Sparks Discussion
Patrick Preacher holds the title of “Pastor of Queer Ministries” at Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA), and, well, his sermons have raised quite a few eyebrows.
According to comments shared by Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey, this pastor argues that hell isn’t a physical place; instead, it represents the anti-LGBTQ discrimination present in America. Stuckey shared a clip of him speaking, expressing his bewilderment about the notion that being queer makes one a bad person.
During the sermon, he further questioned, “What were you thinking when you were told that? In many cases, a man likely said it—because it usually is. How did Christianity, which originated from the humble, brown-skinned immigrants of Nazareth, morph into a religion of bigotry? Who would dare say we’re destined for hell just because God made us this way?”
Stuckey then offered her perspective, stating, “Jesus did exactly that,” pointing out that it’s not only the homosexual community that faces these messages. She referenced Romans 3:23, which discusses sin and the inability of anyone to be without fault. Stuckey challenged the idea that if someone is an immigrant or of a darker skin tone, they must inherently accept all aspects of the queer community.
She described the pastor’s claims as rooted in critical theory rather than true Christianity. According to Stuckey, it seems he’s attempting to twist scripture to justify actions the faith considers sinful. “That’s blasphemy,” she remarked, adding that the pastor mentioned “queerness as part of God’s plan.” This notion prompted her to respond that God’s original intent for marriage was a union between a man and a woman.
Reflecting on the scripture from Matthew 19:4-6, Stuckey emphasized God’s design for gender, illustrating her belief that homosexuality contradicts this plan. “The Bible clearly describes homosexuality as unnatural and outlines consequences for living in such ways, similar to the punishment assigned to those who rebel against God,” she concluded, reiterating that it remains a clear truth despite various interpretations existing today.
