Qwan’tez Stiggers Shines with Interception in Preseason Game
Qwan’tez Stiggers had a standout moment during the preseason game, seemingly at just the right time.
Stepping in for the injured Source Gardner, Stiggers made an impressive intercept on a deep pass from Russell Wilson, catching the ball in the end zone during Saturday’s match.
“We were in human coverage, and he made an inside release. I stayed on his top shoulder and turned around,” Stiggers explained after the game. He described the moment he saw the ball coming, saying it felt like it was meant for him.
Stiggers now has a chance to secure a top backup position on the depth chart, especially with Gardner sidelined due to calf issues and Brandon Stevens making waves in training camp. Meanwhile, rookie Azureye’h Thomas has yet to see game action because of a shoulder injury.
“I was thrilled to have the chance to showcase my skills and carve my path on this team and in the league,” Stiggers said. “I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead.”
Head coach Aaron Glenn often speaks about the importance of handling adversity. Stiggers and his teammates played extensively, but they struggled to keep Collins from scoring on a long pass, which could’ve been avoided if Andre Cisco hadn’t made a tackle at the one-yard line.
“There’s nothing major to fix; it’s part of the game,” Stiggers noted. “We do some of the toughest work out there. Cornerbacks have to deal with all kinds of scenarios. Things happen. We need to eliminate those explosive plays.”
Stiggers was drafted in the fifth round in 2024, despite not playing a significant college football snap before joining the team as a rookie and appearing in 14 games.
His journey to the NFL started in a fan-controlled football league and then transitioned to the Canadian Football League. Glenn has praised Stiggers for his coverage skills and ability to read the field during training camp.
When Collins misunderstood Wilson during a route, Stiggers capitalized on the moment, leading to the interception.
“We’re going to make a lot of things happen this year,” Stiggers confidently stated.
Apart from Stiggers’ performance, the Jets had 73 rushing attempts over two preseason games, with Braelon Allen making seven carries for 34 yards against the Giants.
“Our coach emphasizes our identity and style of play,” Allen explained, adding that their goal is always to be physical on the field.
Injury updates following the game include concerns for De Will McDonald IV (knee), Rashad Weaver (hamstring), WR Xavier Gipson (shoulder), and CB Bump Cooper (hamstring).
