R. Kelly Claims Hospitalization Linked to Murder Plot in Prison
Disgraced singer R. Kelly has reportedly stated that he was hospitalized due to an overdose that he believes is tied to a murder plot in prison. His attorney, Beau B. Brindley, filed court documents asserting that R. Kelly was hospitalized after receiving advice from a solitary confinement staffer to take extra medication on June 12. The singer stated that after taking the medication, he felt dizzy and faint, ultimately collapsing when he attempted to get up. He claimed he crawled to his cell door and then lost consciousness, which led to his emergency transport to Duke University Hospital.
While being taken for medical care, R. Kelly alleged that he heard a prison officer remark, “This is going to open a whole new can of worms.” He claimed that personnel from the Bureau of Prisons had deliberately given him excessive medication.
During his two-day hospitalization, he asserted that medical staff informed him the dosage he received could be life-threatening. Additionally, the court filing alleged that prison staff had withdrawn his essential blood-thinner medication and are refusing to grant him a surgery recommended by a doctor to treat blood clots in his lungs and legs—conditions he indicated posed a serious risk to his health.
R. Kelly expressed that his life is at risk while in solitary confinement and has requested temporary release to home confinement. This marks his third request after being sentenced to a 30-year term for racketeering and sex trafficking in 2021.
In response, prosecutors accused R. Kelly of acting as if he is a victim, labeling his behavior as that of an “abuser and a master manipulator.”
The singer’s legal team also brought to light an alleged failed attempt on his life, said to have occurred about a week before the latest court filings. They included a statement from inmate Mikeal Glenn Stine, an Aryan Brotherhood gang leader, who claimed that authorities had offered him his freedom in exchange for the killing of R. Kelly. Stine said he eventually opted against the plan after initially considering it, and asserted that another gang member had been tasked with the same goal.
