Rand Paul comments on Trump’s ‘nasty little guy’ remark: ‘I don’t take it very seriously’

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) brushed off President Donald Trump’s recent criticism, where Trump labeled him a “mean son of a bitch” for opposing Republicans on significant issues.

Paul remarked, “I don’t take it too seriously,” during an appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” He added, “I’ve known President Trump for over 10 years. We’ve played golf together numerous times. I actually enjoy his company and personality most of the time, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to agree with everything he says.”

Recently, Paul has stood out as the only Senate Republican voting against GOP funding proposals amid the ongoing government shutdown, expressing worries about rising deficit spending. Earlier this year, he also voted against a substantial tax and spending bill that included many of Trump’s priorities.

When asked about Trump’s comments made over the weekend on Truth Social, Paul noted, “What happened to ‘Senator’ Rand Paul? He was never great, but he got really bad!” Trump further criticized Paul’s voting record, mentioning, “I’ve elected him twice in Kentucky, and he never actively votes Republican.”

Paul countered the notion that his opinions are “weird” or misaligned with his constituents. He stated, “It’s strange to think that believing in a balanced budget or only voting on measures that cut the debt from the previous year is out of touch. I doubt the American people would agree with that.” He went on to express that his honesty about the country’s spending and debt issues resonates with those he represents.

Highlighting support from a diverse range of constituents, Paul claimed, “I think my support in Kentucky is stronger than ever. People from all backgrounds—Republicans, Democrats, independents—approach me and say they respect my commitment to principles instead of conforming to pressure from anyone, including the president.”
