Raskin labels GOP ‘isolationist MAGA cult’ that wants to side with tyrants

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) called Congressional Republicans a “right-wing isolationist MAGA cult” siding with the tyrant.

Raskin, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday, and House Republicans said:downplayed the meaning of impeachment“Smashing the Constitution” continues after the convention passed a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in a historic vote Tuesday night.

“As you know, impeachment is a special remedy for presidents and other officials who engage in treason against the republic, bribery, high crimes and misdemeanors,” Raskin said. “It is not a tool for resolving policy differences.”

Mr. Raskin said that while House Republicans have blamed Mr. Mayorkas for the migrant crisis at the southern border, last week Republican senators announced a bipartisan agreement they had been working on for months to address the situation. “Of course it’s ironic” that it was ruined, he said.

Maryland Democrats say partisan policy differences led to Mayorkas’ impeachment, and partisan ties lead to Republicans supporting former President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s interests on border deals and foreign aid packages. He claimed that it led to.

He questioned whether the United States would be able to assist Israel, Ukraine, allies in the Indo-Pacific region, and even the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, all of which would be funded through the package. He seemed pessimistic that it would happen.

Raskin argued that aid for pressing issues has the best chance “on the Senate side,” thanks to House Republicans following Trump’s demands. He named Rep. Lauren Boebert (Colorado), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (Florida).

“What we have is a MAGA cult of right-wing isolationists who have overtaken the Republican Party, who know that democracy and freedom are under siege around the world, and who have sided with tyrants, dictators, and those in power. “dictators who want to be in,” he said.

Ruskin continuedRepublicans such as Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah) and former Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) have a “shrinking minority,” but the party has become a “cult of authoritarian personalities.” He is distraught and increasingly desperate.” ”
