Alan Ritchson, star of Prime Video’s hit series Reacher, not your typical Hollywood star. Not only is he very open about his past struggles with mental health, he’s also openly religious and even hosts Bible chats on YouTube.
The tough guy actor has been sitting for a long time lately. interview with hollywood reporter In it, he admitted that he lives with bipolar disorder and ADHD.
“Being bipolar has wreaked havoc on my life many times. I wish it would go away if I could, but it’s a part of who I am and I need to celebrate it a little, or at least accept it. ” Ritchson, 41, explained.
But he says it’s okay to talk about your struggles with mental health. Because it fulfills God’s call to serve others. And his struggles with mental health were serious. He was sexually assaulted as a child and even attempted suicide.
The actor said that he was the target of a lot of bullying as a child, which led him to focus on bodybuilding. He became a model after graduating from high school, but he didn’t have very good things to say about his profession.
“There are very few benefits to be gained by working in that industry. To be honest, it’s like legalized sex trafficking. The industry is unregulated, and if you’re hired for a job, you basically “It is widely known that people are trafficked to photographers,” he exclaimed.
She added that the situation is even worse for female models as they try to balance being employed while avoiding “rape.”
In fact, the rape aspect of the modeling profession forced him to quit the profession altogether after his agent sent him a message from a man who attempted to sexually assault him during a shoot.
“I was booked for a shoot by this very famous photographer. I was sent into a hotel room to do a nude shoot because if I did the shoot, I would be working for a magazine and a clothing line. “He promised me a very lucrative campaign. I was sexually assaulted by this man,” Ritchson said, adding that she went straight to her agent and said, “I was sexually assaulted by this man.” You knew what was going to happen and you did it anyway. ” He then quit on the spot and never modeled again.
After this incident, he tried to start a new film company, but instead of success, it turned out to be a nightmare, and his life fell into a vicious cycle. He is a 2021 movie produced by the company, Dark Web: Cicada 3301a conflict with a woman who was a partner in his firm brought him to the brink of suicide as he threatened to be taken to court on accusations of sexual assault.
His mental state deteriorated so much that at one point he attempted to hang himself in his home. He actually jumped from the rafters with a string around his neck. However, when he began to suffocate, he had second thoughts and grabbed the rafters to pull himself up, stopping the suicide attempt.
However, this attempt led to some consolation. “I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder shortly after that,” he said of receiving the news at age 36. (He was 40 years old when his ADHD was discovered.) It took him a minute to figure it out, but then his behavior became clear for months and years. Sense,” he said.
Part of his change of heart is based on his spiritual beliefs.
“As someone who believes there is a Creator, that we are created beings, and that our purpose in life is to make the world a better place and serve others, without any qualifications. “What I kept thinking about was the meaning and purpose of life. That’s what life is all about,” he said.
Yet, despite stating that he is a practicing Christian, he is not a fan of the Catholic Church or the way many Christian faiths currently behave, stating that “Christians today have become the most bitter tribe.” That is the exact opposite of what Jesus called us to be and do.”
He also accused evangelicals of supporting Donald Trump, whom he considers a “rapist and a fraud.” And Mr. Ritchson is no fan of Catholicism.
“It’s worth saying that it’s abhorrent that the atrocities that occur in the Church are actively covered up to this day and people are not held accountable. Cardinals, bishops, priests… “I cannot for a moment support the Catholic Church in the face of known pedophilic tendencies,” he said, slamming the Catholic Church.
Meanwhile, he also hosts chats about the Bible in videos he calls “Instachurch” on YouTube, where he talks about religion with his fans. And he says this could make him a target among Hollywood, which is notoriously religiously averse. Jae claimed he told his wife that his religious social media posts “might be the last time I work in this business.”
But ultimately, he is an unapologetic Christian — at least in the way he shaped his beliefs.
“I became a Christian simply because that’s what Jesus calls us to do. Love others to death. That doesn’t mean we’re all going to be crucified, but why should I? “Can I suffer for you? It’s a beautiful thing,” he exclaimed.
