READ IT: Biden drops out of 2024 race with letter

President Biden sent the letter on Sunday, withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race. You can read the full letter below.

Fellow Americans,

Over the past three and a half years, we have made great strides as a nation. Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We have made historic investments to rebuild our nation, lower prescription drug costs for seniors, and expand affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We provided critically needed health care to one million veterans exposed to toxic substances. We passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. We appointed the first African-American woman to the Supreme Court. And we passed the most significant climate change legislation in the history of the world. America has never been in a better position to lead.

I know we couldn’t have done any of this without you, the American people. Together, we’ve weathered a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We’ve defended and preserved our democracy. And we’ve revitalized and strengthened alliances around the world.

With Biden’s campaign halted, what’s next for Democrats?

Serving as President has been the honor of my life, and while I intended to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and our country for me to step down and focus on fulfilling the duties of my presidency for the remainder of my term.

From debate debacle to resignation: Biden’s path to retirement

I will tell the public in more detail about my decision later this week. For now, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all those who worked so hard to see me through.
I have been re-elected, and I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being a great partner in all of this work, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to the American people for the trust they have placed in me.
