Colleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy’s Legal Dispute Approaches Resolution
The ongoing legal battle between Colleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy is reaching its conclusion. Vardy has agreed to cover nearly £1.2 million of Rooney’s legal expenses. However, the well-publicized dispute, which has garnered quite a bit of attention, is not entirely settled yet, as the judge appears reluctant to approve an additional payment of £300,000.
Rooney, who is married to former England striker Wayne Rooney, originally claimed that her legal fees exceeded £1.8 million following accusations that Vardy leaked information about striker Jamie Vardy to social media in 2019.
During a hearing on Tuesday, Vardy’s barrister, Juliet Wells, mentioned that Rooney’s total legal bill stands at £1,190,000, which, with an interest of £65,000, brings it to £1,255,000. The proceedings were anticipated to last for about nine days for Vardy.
The submission highlighted that the legal expenses, encompassing over £120,000 incurred by Rooney, reflected a “kitchen sink” approach. A notable piece of contention arose when it was stated that some legal representatives opted to stay at the upscale Nobu Hotel. However, Rooney’s representative, Robin Dunn, clarified that he didn’t book that hotel, citing a challenging experience at a different, more modest location which lacked WiFi and proper shower facilities.
Dunn noted that the defendant’s agent had suggested Nobu, offering a special rate, but that raised eyebrows over the lavishness of the expenses—one food and minibar tab reportedly came to £225, with a minimal charge for two bottles of water.
Wells argued that it was unreasonable to link these costs directly to Rooney’s actions. Currently, both parties are working towards a “commercial agreement,” with only the matter of Rooney’s “valuation costs” pending. Wells indicated these costs should remain under £100,000.
The complete fee assessment will be finalized before Judge Mark Farran in an upcoming hearing. Notably, neither Vardy nor Rooney participated in this latest remote hearing.
