Here's some not-so-hot news for hot sauce fans.
Announced by the Food and Drug Administration. On Tuesday, hot sauce products from Vesta Fiery Gourmet Foods in Raleigh, North Carolina, were voluntarily recalled due to “undeclared wheat.”
On January 4, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services notified the company that the flour used on the label did not say it was wheat flour.
Although no illnesses have been reported to date, “people with allergies or severe sensitivities to wheat may be at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if these products are consumed,” the company said. It is written in the announcement.
The exact products included in the recall are:
- Benny T's Vesta Dry Hot Sauce Ghost 1.5 oz Glass Bottle UPC 7 94571 99498 0
- Benny T's Vesta Dry Hot Sauce Hot 1.5 oz Glass Bottle UPC 7 94571 99497 3
- Benny T's Vesta Dry Hot Sauce Reaper 1.5 oz Glass Bottle UPC 7 94571 99490 4

- Benny T's Vesta Dry Hot Sauce Berry Hot 1.5 oz Glass Bottle UPC 7 94571 99499 7
The affected lot numbers and expiration dates are FX001500 (expiration date September 2024) and FX001582 (expiration date September 2024) NDC 0078-0110-22.

The product was distributed only in the United States and was sold online, in retail stores, or in deli cases in glass bottles.
The warning advises people who have purchased the recalled products not to consume them or to throw them away.
