Records fall in Pakistan as Brook’s 317 helps England close on win in first Test | Pakistan v England 2024

Where do I start? Will Harry Brook's 317 innings help England score their first triple century in 34 years? Joe Root was reduced to a limping disaster by the end of Wednesday, but returned the next day and added a further 86 runs, taking his total of 262 runs to the highest in the 147-year history of the British Tourists. Only four times (including one sub-5 minute run)? The biggest partnership in England's history, worth a whopping $454 and making just 522 deliveries? Or was it the case of Pakistan, who slowly racked up 556 points in the first innings but ended up in a desperate struggle to avoid defeat with just one day left?

England ended up with 823 for 7, a lead of 267 runs, the fourth highest in Test history. Their task after that was to see if Pakistan's recent history of third-inning failures would bother them enough to forget just how dull and lifeless this pitch was. It was. The home side were 82 for six in less than 25 overs, but they managed to rally to 152 on stumps, but were still 115 behind.

This surface may be a dream for batsmen, but while England have played on this surface a lot in recent memory, they have never achieved anything like this. Brooke and Root create a huge and awe-inspiring partnership, the MCC Museum clears shelf space, the Honor Committee convenes an emergency session, and the Spotty judges decide on two finalists and someone Achieved results that earned him a spot on the list. Clutching portraits of the players and an oversized chisel, he hurried to Mount Rushmore.

England could hardly hasten any further. After all, there was only one maiden in the 150 overs they faced. Their average over over is 5.48 and in their 3,861 Test innings lasting over 100 overs, they have only exceeded this rate twice. In this chart, the England team, which has Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes in the dressing room, currently sits in first place. , Part 2 and Part 3.

Pakistan had only occasional chances to stop the carnage. It was just the third over of the day when Root pulled to midwicket and the ball went fast but definitely to Babar Azam, who was unable to hold it. Whatever resolve and glimmers of optimism Pakistan had on the field fell apart with that ball and was shattered when Root smashed his next shot through the four-man cover. At the time of his reprieve, he was only 186 years old. From there, he and Brook relentlessly continued to rack up runs and records.

The number of partnerships at the start of the day was 379, already the 25th highest in the history of Test cricket and the fifth highest for England. Gradually they proved themselves, surpassing the efforts of the game's greats such as Jack Hobbs, David Gower, Len Hutton and Bill Edrich. Javed Miandad, Garfield Sobers and finally Don Bradman ended up settling for fourth place. In a sport where there are few lasting records, England's best partnership, the 411, was shared by Colin Cowdrey and Peter May at Edgbaston in 1957 and lasted 67 years, becoming the stuff of legend. Root and Brooke left it in the dust of Multan.

Harry Brook was in complete control of the opponents, conditions and the state of the match, taking the total for Pakistan with just six wickets and becoming the first team to reach 700 runs with a loss of just three wickets. He only scored 761 points for England.

Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie certainly tried, but felt it was unfair to criticize the bowlers' efforts on a long and exhausting third day. The fourth case was not the same. They committed absolute filth as they lost their best spinner Abrar Ahmed, who was hospitalized overnight with fever, and their fielding was to match. At one stage, Salman Agha was penalized for negative bowling when he bowled the ball to the leg side. They ended up playing 150 overs, just one more than England had dropped in the first two days, and conceding a further 267 runs.

When Root was sent off, the pace of scoring increased and with it the number of chances. Jamie Smith dropped twice and was down 31. After Root was dismissed, Brook made 57 off his next 34 deliveries, going over the top with a sweep at short fine leg and beckoning them within three overs from there.

In response, Pakistan needed above all to show determination and find time to boost its own confidence and weaken England's. Sadly they started with the pairing that makes it A very strong argument for being the worst opening partnership of all timeAnd on the first ball of the innings, Chris Woakes duly tore off the stumps of Abdullah Shafiq. It was the fourth time out of eight attempts that either Shafiq or Saim Ayub failed to score against Pakistan, resulting in an average score of 2.87 as a partnership.

Shan Massoud offered two chances to catch the ball and fought them off, but seemed determined to return to the dressing room and immediately gave Zak Crawley a chance he couldn't afford. Babar Azam, who was miserably out of form, followed with five balls, Brydon Kurth dismissed Ayub with the first ball of the innings, and Jack Leach hit Saud Shakeel with the second ball. Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal provided some stability in the end, though the latter required Shoaib Basheer to flail a straight catch to reach the stumps. Much of this match is highly unlikely, and so are Pakistan's chances of survival at this stage.
