Joy Reid Critiques Trump on Immigration and Labor

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid recently made bold claims regarding President Donald Trump, suggesting he aims to deport “brown people” to exploit them as “almost slave labor.”

This statement came after Reid examined Trump’s remarks during a CNBC segment on “Squawk Box.” On her podcast, “The Joy Reid Show,” she expressed her concerns about Trump’s approach to immigration policy, particularly regarding the deportation of individuals.

In the audio that Reid shared, Trump emphasized the importance of retaining workers in agriculture, stating that farming roles are difficult to fill. He remarked, “We can’t have no one in our farmers; they can’t be easily replaced.”

Temporary Pass Proposal

Trump indicated that he is considering a “temporary pass” for undocumented workers in agriculture and hospitality, suggesting this could prevent negative implications for those sectors during immigration enforcement efforts.

Reid has been increasingly alarmed by these comments, interpreting Trump’s intentions as a desire to leverage immigrant labor for manual work.

Criticism of Temporary Work Policies

Reid pointed out that, historically, certain demographics like Black individuals are not as involved in farm labor today. She likened Trump’s comments to a dismissal of the current realities of labor dynamics.

She went on to address those who supported Trump, cautioning against the idea of mass deportations and suggesting that his administration’s actions are cloaked in temporary assurances that may not hold true.

Meanwhile, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded to Reid’s assertions, stating, “There’s a reason Joy Reid’s show was cancelled.” She insisted that Trump is dedicated to ensuring fair treatment and protections for American workers, criticizing Reid’s perspective as out of touch and claiming that it perpetuates reliance on illegal labor.
