Attempted Murder Charges for Tren de Aragua Gang Member
Members of the Tren de Aragua Gang, which is considered a terrorist organization, are now facing serious charges after being released into the U.S. by the Biden administration. Gabriel Hartado Kaliaco, an illegal immigrant and recognized gang member, has been charged with attempted murder of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, along with assault on a federal officer resulting in physical injuries.
The incident occurred on June 18th when an ICE agent attempted to detain Hartado in Bellevue, Nebraska. Reports indicate that during this confrontation, he violently attacked the agent—throwing her to the ground, hitting her head on the pavement, and damaging her protective gear with repeated violent actions.
Consequently, the ICE agent sustained severe injuries to her head and arm and was immediately taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She has since been released and is now recovering at home.
Additionally, Hartado is accused of assaulting an FBI agent during this altercation.
Following the attack, Hartado managed to flee but was apprehended by the ICE agent about an hour later.
In a statement, officials noted that “this Venezuelan national is part of the Tren de Aragua gang and has been charged with attempted murder and violent assaults against ICE and FBI agents.” They emphasized the seriousness of the situation, highlighting a troubling trend of increased attacks against ICE agents, which have reportedly risen by 500%. They reiterated that those who attack law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Hartado was first apprehended after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in 2023 and was removed by Border Patrol agents. However, he crossed the border again the following year and was allowed entry into the U.S., receiving a notice to appear before an immigration judge.
