Released migrant accused of instigating El Paso border riot is still roaming US despite allegedly assaulting soldier

The alleged instigator of the violent riot captured on camera at the El Paso border on March 21 remains at large in the United States despite allegedly assaulting a Texas state trooper. The Post has learned exclusively.

Gabriel Enrique Angarita Carrasquero, a 22-year-old Venezuelan immigrant, was one of two accused rioters released to the United States by Border Patrol after the incident and remains at large.

He is suspected of assaulting a Texas state trooper, according to an internal federal memo about his case reviewed by the newspaper.

The other eight instigators are currently in state custody and face serious charges.

A Texas law enforcement official confirmed that Texas authorities have not yet tracked Mr. Carrasquero, adding the Phoenix address he gave Border Patrol agents because his final destination was not where he actually went. Ta.

New details about Carrasquero’s case also showed that border officials did not review footage of the border violence to determine the migrant’s role before releasing Carrasquero.

Carrasquero does not appear to be participating in the Alternative to Detention Electronic Surveillance System, which allows Border Patrol to monitor where migrants are in the country.

Internal documents previously seen by the newspaper said “cooperative migrants” had previously told border officials that Carrasquero was the “instigator” of the group that stormed the fence.

The informant said that Carrasquero “ [a] “Ropes were used to pull down the gates, allowing migrants to bypass the National Guard and rush into the United States.” That information has not yet been substantiated.

Carrasquero was one of two alleged riot instigators released by the Border Patrol. The other man, Juan Jose Colorado Gutierrez, 35, was later arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). He was tracked down because he had enlisted in Alternative Detention.

Before Border Patrol agents released Carrasquero and Gutierrez, both migrants “admitted” to entering the U.S. illegally, along with hundreds of others, “which prompted the National Guard to rush,” according to documents obtained by the newspaper. It is said that

Although they were hospitalized, the Border Patrol released them because there was no detention space.

In addition to the nine ringleaders charged with felonies, there are 214 people charged with rioting in the attempted break-in that was caught on camera by the Post.

The rioting charge carries a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

“The District Attorney’s Office [is] El Paso District Attorney Bill Hicks previously told the Post.

“The situation we experienced is very unusual for us here in El Paso. We don’t normally experience that level of violence. El Paso is, for the most part, a very peaceful city.” added Hicks.

Since the riot, Texas has increasingly fortified its border with Mexico, adding more personnel and wire to deter illegal border crossings.

Areas such as San Diego, California, are now hotspots for migrant unrest, with migrants still finding ways to evade authorities and enter the United States illegally.

On average, about 750 migrants sneak into the country a day, and on Sunday, more than 900 migrants are known to have crossed the border unnoticed in a single day. According to the report.
