Rep. Ilhan Omar Criticizes Charlie Kirk After His Assassination

Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar recently rebuked Charlie Kirk following his assassination, expressing frustration over conservatives who praised him for advocating free speech. In an interview with progressive commentator Mehdi Hasan, Omar stated, “There are a lot of people who are talking about [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate. These people are full of s***, and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”

Omar further condemned Kirk’s past remarks, labeling them as “hateful rhetoric.” She added, “There is nothing more f—ed up than to pretend that his words and actions haven’t been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so.” Despite her criticism, Omar expressed sympathy for Kirk’s family, saying, “I have empathy for his kids and his wife and what they’re going through because I do not want that. No one should go through that, and we should hold ourselves, I hope, to a higher standard.”

Her comments came after Kirk was killed during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, where he had aimed to foster open dialogue among students with differing opinions.

Omar shared a video on X that characterized Kirk as a “Stochastic terrorist and adamant transphobe,” blaming his rhetoric for the circumstances surrounding his death. The video suggested that Kirk’s final remarks included “racist dog whistles.”

This incited backlash on social media, with users calling for Omar’s expulsion from Congress. Conservative influencer Robby Starbuck said he had lost patience and insisted that Omar be expelled and deported. Representative Lauren Boebert added her thoughts, criticizing the idea of justifying someone’s execution based solely on political disagreements.

Many on the left faced repercussions for making light of Kirk’s death, resulting in job losses for some public figures. A Secret Service agent named Anthony Pough posted on Facebook expressing disdain for mourning Kirk, stating his history of spewing hate and racism warranted the backlash.

Pough’s comments elicited a response from the Secret Service, which confirmed that the agency was aware of the situation and had placed him on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Amidst the turmoil, a local Democratic Party leader from Pennsylvania made headlines for advocating more political violence, suggesting that history favored those who acted rather than debated peacefully. This stirred further outrage, as calls for resignation were raised.
