Minnesota Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar labeled President Donald Trump as a “liar” and “murderer” after he made comments regarding Somalia-related issues in Minnesota during his State of the Union speech.
Omar was seated with Michigan Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib, who had a provocative pin against ICE on her clothing. Both lawmakers appeared visibly displeased while Trump spoke.
Trump began his address by asserting, “As we speak, Democrats in this chamber have defunded the Department of Homeland Security. All defunded.” He went on to criticize what he described as the Democrats’ shutdown, highlighting its economic impacts.
Then things got intense; cameras focused on an upset Omar. She expressed a strong demand for the “full and immediate restoration of all funding for Border Security, Homeland Security, and helping people shovel snow.”
He contended that the Democrats had drained funds, commenting, “Nobody’s getting any money. It’s a shame.”
Trump urged Congress and voters to unite around the idea that the government’s primary duty is to protect American citizens rather than illegal immigrants.
A few moments later, he reignited Omar’s frustration by discussing plans for mass deportations and called for the abolition of “dangerous sanctuary cities.” He accused elected officials of obstructing the removal of criminal aliens.
As Trump addressed the Department of Homeland Security, Omar could be heard repeatedly shouting, “You killed Americans,” followed by accusations of murder.
Tlaib also joined in with a shout, referencing Alex Preti, who had been fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis.
During the uproar, Omar yelled, “You’re a liar,” but it was unclear whether she used another, more vulgar term to describe the president.
Omar and Tlaib eventually left the chamber early while Trump was detailing a raid targeting Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.
