A fugitive security guard associated with Rep. Jasmine Crockett had a troubling criminal past, stretching back to 2009, and was being investigated by federal authorities when he was fatally shot during a standoff with Dallas SWAT.
Diamond-Maazel Robinson, 39, was identified as the man shot by police in the parking lot of Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Reports indicate that he had infiltrated Texas law enforcement using various aliases, including “Mike King,” and managed to secure a security role protecting the congresswoman.
According to local news, Robinson had multiple arrests from 2009 to 2012, racking up a total of seven theft charges. He pleaded guilty to various felonies and misdemeanors and received a relatively light sentence—a fine under $2,500 and probation, with a maximum of 10 years probation, as noted in court records.
Using his alias to evade recognition, Robinson not only found work in Crockett’s office but served as a security guard during her unsuccessful Senate campaign. Footage has even emerged showing Crockett walking alongside her security detail made up of large guards.
During the standoff, Robinson reportedly claimed he was a detective with the U.S. Capitol Police. This assertion sparked a federal investigation into his impersonation. He also claimed to have managed several teams of security personnel at churches and hotels in the Dallas area. Additionally, he allegedly ran a website offering off-duty jobs to police officers under false identities.
Last year, Robinson was also compensated for “security services” rendered to Crockett’s office at a rate of $340 per payment. However, it remains uncertain how he secured a position within her team.
On the day of the incident, Dallas police’s fugitive unit tracked Robinson to a parking lot near a children’s hospital, where he barricaded himself in a vehicle. When officers deployed tear gas to prompt his exit, he emerged from the car and aimed a weapon at them. Consequently, the officers felt compelled to respond with lethal force, resulting in Robinson’s death.
As of now, Rep. Crockett has not made any public statements regarding the events surrounding Robinson’s death.
