Concerns Over H-1B Visa Program Misuse
Rep. Riley Moore (R-West Virginia) has raised serious concerns about the H-1B visa program, highlighting how it is being misused, not only by certain applicants but also by large companies that seem to be using it to displace American workers.
During a discussion with Matthew Boyle on Breitbart News Saturday, Moore expressed that many people may not fully grasp the extent of the program’s abuse. He pointed to the example of the CEO of Xbox, who “let go of 3,200 employees” before seeking “thousands of H-1B visas.”
“The level of abuse surrounding the H-1B visa program is something most people don’t realize. It’s not just the applicants; it’s also large corporations that are exploiting this program to replace American employees,” Moore explained.
He emphasized that the misuse affects a broad range of jobs, not just technical roles. “If you take a look at companies applying for H-1B visas, you often find roles like computer programmers and accountants. The only real difference between someone educated in India and their American counterpart is often the salary they’re ready to accept,” he noted.
Moore cited Microsoft as a recent example, stating that after the Xbox CEO’s decision to fire thousands of employees, the company turned around and applied for numerous H-1B visas. “Essentially, they’re replacing American workers with individuals from India, Indonesia, and other countries—most commonly from India—who are willing to work for wages that simply aren’t competitive,” he added.
He further remarked that the program has been misused for quite some time, asserting that the educational credentials of many applicants are often questionable, with some documents indicating that their qualifications may not be legitimate.
Additionally, recent reports revealed that Vice President J.D. Vance mentioned the Department of Labor has started “dozens of subpoenas and investigations into foreign individuals trying to exploit the H-1B visa program.”
