Rep. Swalwell receives criticism for workout video featuring a political message

Social media was abuzz after Rep. Eric Swalwell from D-Ga shared a video on X, lifting weights while discussing political issues, specifically criticizing Republicans. Some users took issue with the 135 pounds he was bench pressing, suggesting that, given his age, he should be capable of lifting more.

In the video, Swalwell expressed his frustrations over congressional leaders taking an early break in August, implying they were avoiding votes on critical matters, like the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s documents. “I should be working now…instead, Republicans sent us home instead of facing the dark truths surrounding Epstein,” he noted.

Critics, including some conservatives, were quick to mock his weightlifting efforts. Joe Concha, a Fox News contributor, highlighted that there was backlash for Donald Trump regarding potential cover-ups related to Epstein’s case. Trump, under pressure, instructed his Attorney General to disclose all relevant information surrounding the matter.

Swalwell claimed that while he’s out there lifting weights, real issues like reducing medical and grocery costs could be addressed if Congress were in session. However, many found his strength display unimpressive.

Comments from critics ranged from laughter at Swalwell’s weight to jabs at his perceived attempts at masculinity. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene even mocked him further by sharing her own gym video and insisting he needs to gain strength. She pointed out that Congress traditionally breaks in August, regardless of who is in charge, adding, “Democrats have ignored Epstein for years.”

Conservative talk show host Wendy Bell chimed in with her own remarks on Swalwell’s video, questioning his approach. Swalwell has yet to respond to the reactions surrounding his post.
