Report: Federal Probe into Ilhan Omar Dubbed 'World War 11' After Her Viral Mistake

Investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar Draws Attention

A federal inquiry involving Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is being referred to as “World War 11.” This nickname comes from her well-known blunder last year at a Democratic press conference, where she mistakenly referred to “World War II” as “World War Eleven.”

The news about the investigation emerged on Monday, although specific details are still vague. Agents from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reportedly searched Omar’s residence in Washington, DC, indicating that the investigation may be linked to immigration issues.

According to a DOJ official, “Today in the Washington, DC, area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation.”

The Washington Post has reported that investigators are dubbing the probe “World War 11,” referencing a statement Omar made during a January 2025 press conference where she likened Trump’s immigration policies to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

In July, President Trump poked fun at Omar during the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, joking about her gaffe and referring to her as calling her brother “husband #1,” alluding to longstanding immigration fraud allegations against her.

Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, has previously called on the House Ethics Committee to investigate Omar’s immigration history in a July 2019 article for Breitbart News.

Fitton’s complaints to the committee included accusations of perjury, immigration and marriage fraud, as well as tax and federal student loan fraud.

He alleged, “Documented-based reporting by Steinberg, et al. has developed the following information: Rep. Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, a citizen of the United States, married her biological brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a citizen of the United Kingdom, in 2009, presumably as part of an immigration fraud scheme.”

In light of the investigation and the DHS’s search of her home, Omar contended that she is being unfairly targeted for her political views by the Trump administration.

“I’m okay. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar asserted. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”

This isn’t the first time Omar has faced scrutiny from federal investigators. Reports surfaced in January that the DOJ under former President Biden had started an investigation into her finances, following claims that her net worth had significantly increased since she took office in Congress.
