Musk Challenges GOP Senators on Trump’s Legislation

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has threatened to support significant opposition to GOP Senators who backed President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” a move that has led to a response from those Senators speaking to Fox News Digital.

Kansas GOP Senator Roger Marshall remarked, “We really need to get this bill passed. It aligns with President Trump’s agenda—securing borders and bringing back prosperity. If we accomplish that, I believe we’ll be well-positioned for re-election.”

Alabama GOP Senator Tommy Tuberville emphasized that “the final line is going to be 51 votes for this tonight.” He seems confident about the outcome.

Trump Warns of Potential Tax Increase if Bill Fails

Marshall noted some concerns Musk has had, particularly regarding cuts to energy subsidies. “He expressed frustration about the subsidies being cut for wind and solar energy. I understand where he’s coming from, but really, we can’t rely solely on government funding. We need to approach this through private sector initiatives, similar to how he’s done it.”

Missouri GOP Senator Schmidt voiced support for Musk’s achievements, suggesting he deserves recognition for uncovering waste and fraud in government. “Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions,” he said.

Tennessee GOP Senator Bill Hagerty shared his optimism for the future, stating he already anticipates benefits from the bill ahead of the 2026 primary elections. “We expect more growth, and thus more tax revenue. I don’t believe the doom many predict will actually happen,” he explained.

Musk Critiques Political Alliances

South Dakota GOP Senator John Hoeven countered the notion that the bill would inflate the deficit, arguing that revenue growth could effectively mitigate it.

When asked about the potential impact of Musk’s criticisms on mid-term Republicans, Marshall hesitated a bit, mentioning that he hadn’t considered that angle deeply. “In Kansas, it could be a considerable hurdle, although Trump maintains popularity here. We need to find a way to engage Musk. He brings a lot to the table for our economy,” he reflected.

Musk seems to have intensified his ongoing disagreement with Trump and his allies by issuing warnings that he might actively oppose them if they vote for the bill. “Those promising to cut spending yet voting for record debt will face consequences come primary time,” he posted on X.

This was underscored by a graphic he shared, depicting a burning image of Pinocchio. He remarked, “Congress members who advocate for cutting spending but then vote to increase debt should feel embarrassed!”

As the Senate discussed the bill, Trump warned that the Government Efficiency Bureau (DOGE) could come back to haunt Musk. “DOGE is a monster that might have to come back and eat Elon. I mean, isn’t that something?” Trump commented as he traveled to Florida for a visit to a new immigration facility, also noting Musk’s unhappiness about the end of the EV mandate.

When pressed about the possibility of deporting Musk, Trump replied, “I don’t know; we’ll have to see.”
