Republicans react to Israel’s actions against Iran: ‘Let the games begin’

Republicans respond to Israel's strikes on Iran: 'Game on'

Support for Israel Following Attack on Iran

Republican lawmakers have expressed strong support for Israel after its recent strike against Iran, urging their constituents to pray for the Jewish state as it confronts Tehran’s expanding nuclear ambitions.

“Pray for Israel,” tweeted Senator Lindsey Graham. His thoughts echoed across other GOP members as news broke of the attack that resulted in the deaths of an Iranian commander and two generals from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Speaker Mike Johnson credited Iran for its “tireless” efforts in pushing towards this escalation, which aligns with former President Trump’s stance on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

“Unfortunately, Iran has declared its plans to build a new enrichment facility,” Johnson noted in a tweet. “Israel feels it must act to protect itself, and they are within their rights to do so. Iran should be prepared for serious consequences if they retaliate against U.S. interests.”

Senator Jim Lisch, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, affirmed support for Israel, calling for prayers for the safety of its citizens and success in their “defensive action.” He also recognized the dedication of U.S. service members in the region, cautioning Iran against attacking U.S. forces.

Israel has conducted several strikes against Iran, particularly targeting significant facilities like Natanz, which is crucial for uranium enrichment. The Israeli government has stated that these operations aim to thwart Iran’s nuclear weapons development.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that their operation, referred to as “Lion Lion,” would continue “for as long as necessary.” He emphasized they have targeted vital aspects of Iran’s nuclear and missile programs in recent attacks.

Conversely, Senator Jack Reid from the Democratic side warned that Israel’s aggressive actions could escalate violence in the region and endanger American lives. He highlighted the complexities of the Israel-Iran tensions and urged both parties to pursue restraint. Reid called for President Trump and global allies to focus on diplomatic solutions to prevent an uncontrolled crisis.

Reports indicate that Iran has launched over 100 drones, with some intercepted by Israeli forces.

On Friday, Trump issued a warning to Iran about the repercussions of continuing nuclear pursuits, stating that the U.S. boasts superior military technology and that Israel is well-equipped to counter any threats.

In light of rising tensions, Iran announced it would withdraw from upcoming nuclear negotiations planned for Sunday in Oman.
