White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday that Republicans “side with Trump, Vladimir Putin and the Iranian government” in opposing foreign aid and border security legislation supported by the Biden administration, saying the fact He said he was accusing the country of treason.
Jean-Pierre repeated the accusation for emphasis Wednesday during a White House press conference. No one in the press corps thought to challenge her on the tactic of accusing domestic political opponents of siding with America’s enemies.
The bill passed the Senate, but was deemed dead when it reached the House, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) will not bring it to the floor. (A vote could still be obtained if a majority of members sign a “removal petition” requesting forced removal.)
House Republicans oppose the bill for a variety of reasons. Many believe this does not actually provide border security, but merely legitimizes the status quo and allows thousands of immigrants to enter the United States every day without proper authorization. . Additionally, the bill would fund the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has become increasingly controversial as progress has stalled. The bill also provides security assistance to Israel, but also adds funding for assistance to the Palestinians, who Israel says are occupied by Hamas.
Biden ran for national unity, but repeat His inaugural address used the word “unity” many times. But the White House is now following Barack Obama’s example and accusing domestic opponents of siding with America’s enemies, particularly Iran.
Ironically, it is likely the Biden administration that enabled Iran by pursuing fruitless nuclear negotiations. By sending money to Iran in exchange for American prisoners. and by refusing to take decisive action against Iranian terrorist proxies like the Houthis.
