Response to Jubilee: Engaging in a Discussion with 20 Liberal Christians

Debating Tips from Allie Beth Stuckey

Allie Beth Stuckey, a host on Blaze TV, recently participated in a Jubilee debate involving 20 progressive Christians. Her debating skills drew attention and praise from various perspectives, prompting her to share useful advice for anyone who might find themselves in similar discussions.

“First, connect without compromise,” Stuckey suggests. She emphasizes the importance of establishing a human and honest connection without conceding one’s position.

She continues with her second tip: “Define your terms.” This point is crucial, as agreeing on what an argument entails is essential for meaningful dialogue.

During the debate, Stuckey articulated her definition of abortion, stating, “So abortion is the intentional killing of a human being in the womb. Can we agree on that?” This step set a clear foundation for the subsequent conversation.

When a liberal participant disagreed, claiming abortion wasn’t murder, Stuckey redirected the discussion back to the concept of murder. She asked, “What species of life do you kill?” to which he responded, “Human.” This led her to assert, “So we can agree that abortion is the deliberate killing of a human being in the womb.” She declared the act as “evil, evil, wrong and simple,” and inquired whether he concurred, to which he replied, “No.”

Reflecting on this exchange, Stuckey stressed, “You can be in charge, and you can do it in a respectful, positive way.” She highlighted the importance of defining terms early on in the discussion.

Another significant piece of advice she offered was, “Don’t try to win every argument in every conversation.” She pointed out that the goal is often to make progress, to plant seeds of thought. “Remember, you’re not the hero,” she added, explaining that individuals might be just one of many who contribute to someone’s journey.

In her view, “You plant the seeds. You love them.” This approach encourages a sense of patience and humility in discussions that can often be heated or contentious.
