Restaurant Owner Supports Officer Amid Protests

Los Angeles – The owner of a Long Beach restaurant has chosen to support a police officer who was visibly affected during a recent protest outside her establishment. Elizabeth Mendoza, who runs La Ceiba Restaurant, shared her experience with media.

Mendoza explained that during the riot on June 7th, both police officers and protesters sought refuge in her restaurant after facing pepper spray. “It’s my town, so I feel sad… it’s a good city,” she noted, adding, “My people are honest. They work hard. I’ve been here for 14 years. I see the police as just like me; they feel everything I feel.”

Initially, Mendoza felt her business was struggling due to the tense atmosphere created by immigration enforcement actions, which left locals feeling unsafe. However, she remarked that since her compassionate response during the protests, her restaurant has experienced a surge in support from the community.

Having lived in the U.S. for over three decades, Mendoza is a legal citizen and expressed her sorrow over the violence that has marred recent events. “These riots and ICE actions make me sad,” she admitted.

Mendoza highlighted the need for peaceful protests while condemning any violence towards local businesses. “Protesting is important, but it should not involve destruction,” she insisted.

The protests escalated in the Los Angeles area, leading to a series of confrontations. On June 7th, tensions peaked when some individuals resorted to vandalism, causing significant damage.

The riots persisted over the weekend, reflecting an ongoing conflict in the region, and Mendoza continues to call for unity amid such unrest.
