Retired public school employee, 79, behind bars after inappropriate messages to kid: police

Michigan State Police say a 79-year-old former public school employee is in jail on suspicion of sending inappropriate messages to a minor.

State police said in September they received information that former middle school employee Sue Ann Ash was allegedly texting and using Snapchat to send inappropriate messages. did.

Police began an investigation, including interviewing an unidentified minor at the Traverse City Child Advocacy Center. Authorities also obtained a warrant for Ash’s residence in Kalkaska, which resulted in police seizing “multiple electronic devices,” according to an agency press release.

The device was then sent to the State Police Computer Crimes Unit for analysis. Police say the victim knew Ash, but did not provide details about the content of Ash’s messages to the minor.

In 2022, nearly 350 kindergarten to high school educators will be arrested for child sex crimes.

A report was filed with the Kalkaska County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant for Ash’s arrest was issued on January 8th. Police said the former school employee turned himself in.

Kalkaska Public Schools Superintendent Rick Heitmeyer told local media that Ash worked as a paraprofessional at Kalkaska Middle School and retired in September. She started working at this school in 2012.
