RFK Jr loses Secret Service protection after suspending campaign

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially lost the protection of the United States Secret Service (USSS) on Monday, just days after withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race.

“President Kennedy went through a lengthy process to gain USSS protection in the first place, and his original request was initially denied,” White House Press Secretary John F. Kennedy said in a statement to CBS News.

President Biden had not ordered Kennedy to receive Secret Service protection until the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in July.

“In light of the events of this weekend, the President has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide security for Robert Kennedy Jr. both before and after the events of last weekend,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement shortly after the shooting of Trump.

But the candidate dropped out of the race on Friday and endorsed former President Trump.

Kennedy spoke at length Sunday about the “unity government” he supports with Trump, saying the former president has agreed to tackle the key issues that launched his campaign, including ending the war in Ukraine, fighting censorship and improving the health of America’s children.

Trump campaign pollsters say they are already seeing Kennedy’s supporters drift toward the former president. Before Kennedy’s withdrawal, polls showed him with 20,000 supporters. 5% or 6% support In key battleground states like Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. blasted the “mainstream media aligned with the Democratic National Committee” and accused them of orchestrating Harris’ rise.

Kennedy also suggested Trump is likely to announce further additions to the so-called unity government in the near future.
