RNC claims Peltola's campaign engaged in election fraud in the Alaska Senate race.

RNC Denies Election Tactics Comparisons Amid Alaska Ballot Controversy

The Republican National Committee has pushed back against claims that both major political parties engage in similar election tactics. This follows a report by The New York Times highlighting efforts linked to Democrats aimed at getting a second “Dan Sullivan” on the ballot for Alaska’s Senate election. The RNC maintains that their focus remains on ensuring fair elections, while they accuse Democrats of trying to act fraudulently.

“No, both sides don’t do this,” asserted Ally Triolo, RNC’s election integrity communications director, during a Thursday interview. “Our entire effort here at the RNC is securing elections, making them fair and free and honest.”

She emphasized that Republicans are opposed to the actions taken by Democrats, which they believe undermine election integrity. “Democrats have repeatedly opposed the Save America Act and common-sense safety measures,” Triolo commented.

In addressing the Alaska situation, she expressed concern over what she described as a disingenuous approach by Democrats, saying, “They have ill intentions. They’re trying to disenfranchise voters and—yes, trying to engage in fraudulent behavior.”

The Times stated that the campaign for Senate nominee Mary Peltola, along with other Democratic party aides, worked to add a retired teacher named Dan J. Sullivan to the ballot, creating confusion among voters.

Triolo pointed out that Republicans had sought to expose what they termed as a scheme from Democrats starting months ago, suggesting that the Democratic party opposed measures designed to protect voters and maintain election integrity.

The Department of Justice has intervened in this situation, filing a lawsuit to delay the certification of the election if the votes for this additional Sullivan could potentially alter the results. Reports indicate that a criminal investigation is currently underway, focusing on possible violations of civil rights laws.

Vice President JD Vance remarked that authorities ought to examine whether Peltola engaged in election fraud, calling it an attempt to “steal a Senate seat.” Senate Majority Leader John Thune described the situation as a “coordinated effort” that he deemed inappropriate.

There is an ongoing investigation concerning Daniel J. Sullivan’s presence on the ballot, being conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alaska. This investigation is expected to continue past Election Day without immediate indictments.

Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy has initiated a state investigation in light of these developments. Meanwhile, Peltola’s campaign, along with officials from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, has denied any wrongdoing related to the ballot confusion, suggesting that both parties sometimes use spoiler candidates.

Triolo stated that the RNC is dedicated to safeguarding the election process in Alaska, mentioning efforts to inform voters about the unfolding situation. “We are actively engaging to ensure that this plan is recognized for the fraud that it is,” she concluded, emphasizing the significance of the upcoming midterm elections for maintaining Republican control.
