At the Republican National Convention (RNC) Wednesday night, two members of Gold Star families reminded attendees and viewers at home of President Joe Biden’s horrific Afghanistan withdrawal that ultimately led to the deaths of 13 U.S. troops.

“Our son, Corporal Hunter Lopez, whose name Joe Biden refuses to say, was killed on Aug. 26, 2021,” Alicia Lopez said. “He died during Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.”
“At a debate last month, he claimed that no military personnel had died under his administration. Not one. That hurt all of us deeply,” Herman Lopez added.
“And so, Alicia and I are here to say the names of all 13 service members who lost their lives at Abbey Gate,” he continued, reading out each name one by one.
As a result, when Lopez read out the names of all 13 servicemen killed at Abbey Gate during the retreat, a chorus of “Joe has to go!” erupted from the crowd.
Meanwhile, Christy Shamblin, another member of the Gold Star family who was at the event on behalf of her daughter-in-law, Marine Sergeant Nicole Gee, also criticized Biden for refusing to acknowledge Nicole’s tragic death.
“Joe Biden refused to acknowledge their sacrifice,” Shamblin told the crowd. “Donald Trump knew all of our children’s names. He knew all of their stories…”
“Donald Trump shared his burden with me for a few hours,” she added. “Donald Trump spent six hours with us in Bedminster… He allowed us to grieve. He allowed us to remember our heroes.”
The woman went on to say that she previously thought of Trump as an “arrogant politician,” but that instead, he had shown kindness and genuine “empathy” over the loss.
In August 2021, a suicide bomb attack occurred at Kabul airport during a failed withdrawal, killing 13 military personnel and 60 Afghans.
