Robot Security Dogs with Indian Accents Spark Curiosity in Atlanta

A video that’s gone viral has prompted a somewhat unexpected question among residents of Georgia:

What are those robot dogs with Indian accents doing in the area?

A clip circulating on X features a patrol robot dog, brightly lit, roaming around an Atlanta apartment complex, appearing to communicate with locals in what many describe as “Indian accents.”

This video has garnered close to 2 million views, and it’s not an isolated incident. Many others have noted that these machines either have “Indian accents” or are “Indian controlled.”

Figuring out where these robots originated is simpler than determining the source of their accents.

The robot dogs that residents are encountering likely come from Undaunted, a company based in Atlanta that has deployed numerous security robots throughout the city.

As reported by Atlanta News First in May, Undaunted has already placed bots at over three dozen properties, both commercial and residential, in just one year. By August, it was highlighted that more than 120 of these robotic canines were active.

Following the report, various apartment complexes have reported issues such as car break-ins and loitering, which these patrolling robots seem to be mitigating.

“I love it,” expressed one resident to the local news.

A property owner noted that these dogs offer a new viewpoint in areas that traditional surveillance may not cover effectively.

“They can navigate behind bushes and reach spots where our regular monitoring can’t,” she explained.

Undaunted’s CEO, Bryan Dinner, commented on instances where attempted thefts were thwarted by the robots. He mentioned, “These thieves tried to escape from the robot, but they didn’t realize there were multiple robots in the vicinity.”

Residents do indeed see these robots frequently, yet there’s a significant cost associated with their deployment.

According to Undaunted’s website, their “plug-and-play robotic” guards are priced at $3,333 monthly. This basic package includes two robots, two charging stations, and monitoring services available for eight hours a day, every day of the week.

You can opt for additional features for extended coverage and more robots.

The live agents some residents have observed are part of what Undaunted describes as their “live operator” service. They can interact through audio, alert the authorities, and communicate with clients.

Nonetheless, Dinner pointed out that while their service offers security at about half the cost of hiring human guards, they don’t physically intervene and are unarmed. “We will never arm our robots,” he clarified.

Inquiries were made to Undaunted regarding whether any of their operators work overseas or are on H-1B visas, but no response was received.
