Rogan debates Sanders on climate change and wealthy political donors, raises questions about the 2028 presidential race

In a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” comedian Joe Rogan asked Senator Bernie Sanders about his possible presidential bid in 2028. This led to a discussion on Sanders’ views regarding climate change and the influence of large political donations.

Sanders, representing Vermont, emphasized his stance on halting military aid to Israel. He mentioned several resolutions he’s proposed aimed at blocking extensive arms sales to Israel, particularly in light of the conflict in Gaza.

He condemned the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, labeling it a war crime, while also criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s response. “The Netanyahu government had no right to kill 52,000 people in Gaza. They injured over 100,000. As we speak, kids are hungry due to Israel’s lockdown,” Sanders stated.

It is noteworthy that Sanders referenced statistics from Gaza’s Ministry of Health without differentiating civilians from combatants, leaving the actual death toll open to question. Some analyses suggest the total could be higher due to indirect deaths.

When Rogan inquired about Sanders’ campaign intentions for 2028, Sanders said, “I’m 83. I don’t know if the American people are too enthusiastic.” Rogan remarked on Sanders being older than President Biden, to which Sanders appeared a bit taken aback, fumbling for words.

The dialogue then shifted toward political financing, with Rogan scrutinizing major donations, particularly Elon Musk’s considerable contributions to Trump’s campaign, without mentioning Harris’ funding. Sanders pointed out the implications of the Supreme Court’s ruling that permits unlimited political contributions under the First Amendment, arguing, “What it says is, a billionaire now has constitutional rights because their money equals freedom of expression.” He found Musk’s $270 million spend on Trump absurd.

Rogan challenged Sanders on his critique of large donations by bringing up Harris’ campaign contributions, highlighting a $1.5 billion expenditure. Sanders acknowledged the Democrats’ fundraising, albeit reluctantly, indicating it wasn’t a primary focus of his current campaign against oligarchy.

Rogan also confronted Sanders about his positioning on climate change, presenting data suggesting a period of global cooling. Sanders insisted that while some view climate change as a hoax, he believes it is a pressing issue offering opportunities for creating numerous well-paying jobs. However, Rogan pointed to a Washington Post article arguing that the Earth is indeed in a cooling phase, prompting Sanders to express annoyance, noting he hadn’t seen the piece.
