Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), former President Trump’s personal physician, said FBI Director Christopher Wray was “wrong” in suggesting that Trump was hit by something other than a bullet during the assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally.
“Two days ago at a congressional hearing, FBI Director Christopher Wray suggested it was possible it was a bullet, shrapnel or glass,” Jackson wrote in the letter. Posted on Truth Social on Friday.
“There is absolutely no evidence that it was anything other than a gunshot wound. Congress should correct the record, as the hospital and I have confirmed. It is wrong and inappropriate for Director Wray to suggest otherwise,” he added.
Jackson backed up his assessment with his experience as a military surgeon in the U.S. Navy. Butler Memorial Hospital, where Trump was taken immediately after the incident, [Trump] He was arrested for a “gunshot wound to the right ear.”
“Based on my direct observation of the injuries, the relevant clinical context, and my extensive experience in evaluating and treating patients with similar injuries, I fully agree with the initial evaluation and treatment provided by the doctors and nurses at Butler Memorial Hospital on the day of the shooting,” he wrote.
Testifying before Congress on Wednesday, Wray suggested to lawmakers that something other than a bullet could have hit the president’s ear.
“With regards to former President Trump, I think there’s a question as to whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that struck his ear,” Wray said.
The former president slammed the director in a post on Truth Social on Thursday.
“FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he doesn’t know if I was hit with shrapnel, glass or a bullet (the FBI wouldn’t even check!), but he is certain that Villain Joe Biden was physically and cognitively ‘at peace’ – FALSE!” Trump wrote.
“The hospital called it a ‘gunshot wound to the ear’ and that’s exactly what it was. No wonder the once-renowned FBI has lost America’s trust!”
The FBI is analyzing shrapnel found near Trump’s stage to try to determine what may have grazed his ear.
“This was a heinous attack, and the FBI is dedicating significant resources to learning all we can about the shooter and what led to this violent act,” the FBI said. “The FBI’s shooting reconstruction team continues to examine evidence at the scene, including bullet fragments, and the investigation is ongoing.”
In his letter, Jackson also updated the president on his condition since the shooting, saying his ear was “recovering rapidly.”
