Just because Tom Holland is the face of a blockbuster superhero franchise doesn't mean everyone knows about it.
That was the apparent conclusion when Rory McIlroy came face to face with the 28-year-old “Spiderman” actor during a pro-am before the BMW PGA Championship in England on Wednesday.
Holland approached the four-time major winner on the driving range and introduced himself, and the 35-year-old McIlroy exchanged brief greetings before returning his attention to his golf bag.
The exchange went viral, with fans speculating that McIlroy had no idea who Holland was.

One fan quipped that Holland should have introduced himself as his alter ego.

As the day progressed, Holland shared a heartwarming moment with another PGA Tour star, greeting Tommy Fleetwood and his son Frankie, who were dressed in “Spiderman” costumes for the occasion.
As the three chatted, Fleetwood, 33, joked that Holland was “our third favorite” Webster, an apparent reference to past “Spider-Man” stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who co-starred with Holland in the 2021 film “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
This week's BMW PGA Championship was full of buzzworthy moments for McIlroy. The head of the 8 iron flew off after a collision during Thursday's opening round at the Wentworth Club.
He is currently tied for third at five under par after the first round.
McIlroy, who missed out on a fifth major championship at the U.S. Open earlier this summer, finished second at last week's Irish Open at eight under par.
