Iran’s Nuclear Concerns Intensified After US Strikes

The former Russian president suggested that several nations may soon provide nuclear warheads to Iran following a recent US military strike on multiple Iranian nuclear sites.

Dmitry Medvedev, now vice-chairman of Russia’s Security Council, expressed in a post that the potential for nuclear arms production in Iran remains strong. He stated, “I think many countries are prepared to supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads.”

While Medvedev didn’t name specific countries involved, Russia historically has been a supporter of Iran’s nuclear endeavors. Interestingly, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently offered to mediate discussions between Iran and Israel.

Moscow has emphasized its readiness to facilitate negotiations concerning a renewed nuclear accord between the US and Iran. Russia played a key role in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which eased sanctions on Iran in exchange for limits on its nuclear activities. However, the agreement fell apart when Donald Trump withdrew from it in 2018.

Medvedev’s remarks came after the US carried out strikes involving over 125 aircraft, including B-2 stealth bombers. These operations were confirmed by Chief of Staff Dan Kane, who noted the extensive involvement of military assets.

Trump had been contemplating military actions against Iranian sites in the days leading up to the strikes. The White House and State Department were notably silent when approached for comments about Medvedev’s statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the US strikes, labeling them a violation of international law and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Prior to the US actions, Iran had issued warnings against retaliatory strikes, declaring potential consequences if the US engaged militarily, particularly referencing past tensions following the killing of a prominent Iranian general in 2020.

Following the US strike, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth assured that the US would collaborate with regional allies to ensure protection for forces in light of the recent escalation.

Hegseth mentioned, “We understand the challenges faced by our allies and are working closely with them.” He added that the presence of various military assets in the region complicates the situation, necessitating careful consideration of all parties involved.
