Russia Invites Palestinians Groups, Including Terrorists, to Moscow Summit

Russia convened more than a dozen Palestinian factions in late February for a summit aimed at forming a united front, as Hamas struggles for survival in the face of Israeli counterattacks after the October 7 terrorist attacks. invited to Moscow.

of jerusalem post office report Monday:

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohamed Shtayyeh said over the weekend that Russia had invited Palestinian factions to a meeting in Moscow, UAE’s Al Ain Media reported. Russia’s state news agency TASS reported that the invitation could be held from February 29 to March 2. The invitation is Russia’s latest move to increase its influence following the October 7 attack on Israel. Moscow hosted a Hamas delegation in October, and Hamas aims to provide aid to Moscow.

According to Russia’s state-run Mediatas news agency, Moscow has invited up to 14 Palestinian organizations to participate. Among them are members of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which the Russian government cooperates with Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Hamas has been providing aid to Russia following the October 7 attack. The Russian government has also not condemned the massacre, and appears to believe that Moscow welcomes October 7 as a welcome distraction from the war in Ukraine. A war in Gaza would require 155mm shells, a type similar to those used by the Ukrainians, and the focus on Gaza means that Russia will slowly build up forces in Donetsk, perhaps in preparation for the Spring Offensive. This means that it has been strengthened. Ukraine had to withdraw from a major city near Donetsk over the weekend, but reports say Ukrainians are outnumbered and outgunned on the front lines.

Russia appears to be replaying the role played by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. offered Weapons, funding, and ideological support for anti-Israel terrorist organizations and Arab states, including the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Anti-Israel sentiment appears to be closely related to pro-Russian sentiment in developing countries. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva compared Israel’s response to Hamas to the Holocaust, then defended Russia over the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Similarly, South Africa, which has led the charge against Israel at the International Court of Justice, has taken a pro-Russian stance in the Ukraine war and refuses to condemn Russia’s occupation of Ukrainian territory.

“Just as no country should have diplomatic relations with ISIS, no country should have diplomatic relations with Hamas,” Israeli government spokesman Eilon Levy said Monday, adding that Russia and other countries should not have diplomatic relations with Hamas. He said that terrorists should be eliminated.
