Russian Court Rejects Evan Gershkovich’s Appeal

Evan Gershkovich will reportedly remain in prison until at least June 30th.th After his appeal was rejected by a Moscow court.

The 32-year-old American will remain in Russian custody after a court rejected his appeal to end his detention, according to reports.

Gershkovic was arrested on suspicion of espionage in late March 2023 while on a reporting trip.Last month, his arrest was extended until June 30th.th. His lawyer later appealed the ruling, but it was rejected in court on Tuesday.

This claim was refuted by Gershkovic and his employer, and the U.S. government ruled that he had been wrongfully detained.

Moscow correspondent since Nicholas Danilov. US News and World ReportsGershkovich, who was detained by the KGB in September 1986, was the first American journalist to be detained in Russia on suspicion of espionage.

Twenty days after his arrest, Danilov was released without charge in exchange for a member of the Soviet Union’s mission to the United Nations, who had been detained by the FBI on suspicion of espionage.
