Trump to Request Supreme Court Reconsideration on Civil Rights Case
President Donald Trump has announced plans to petition the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit the birthright civil rights case, known as Trump v. Barbara.
The Supreme Court issued a ruling in late June stating that children born in the U.S. are “subject to the jurisdiction” of their parents, even if the parents are undocumented or temporarily in the country.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his disapproval of the ruling, stating that he would pursue a retrial of this significant case.
“I will immediately ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review this case,” Trump remarked. “If they don’t change their completely insane decision, this miscarriage of justice will destroy America.”
To bolster his argument, Trump highlighted the phenomenon of “birth tourism,” where individuals travel to the U.S. to give birth in order to secure citizenship for their children.
He seemed to reference a recent situation in Texas, where Governor Greg Abbott initiated an investigation into a hospital alleged to be promoting “birth packages” to foreign nationals, suggesting they can obtain U.S. citizenship for their newborns.
“Signs and billboards have been installed all over the southern border and Mexico, advertising BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP. It says, ‘Delivery starts at $4,000.’ Similarly, billions of dollars are being made illegally through this scam. Those willing to pay will gain citizenship. This is by far the best way to become a citizen, and then the whole family can follow,” Trump stated.
“No one thought this would happen!!! American citizenship is not for sale! In fact, it is a crime, and therefore, the Supreme Court’s decision is wrong,” he added.
According to court regulations, a motion for reconsideration can be filed within 25 days of a decision, though it must be approved by a majority of justices.
