Ohio State's national championship celebration was briefly disrupted.
Head coach Ryan Day, quarterback Will Howard and linebacker Cody Simon ride in a golf cart after an on-field ceremony celebrating the Buckeyes' 34-23 win over Notre Dame on Monday night. However, they didn't get very far.
The staff member driving the golf cart attempted to make a three-point turn and crashed into a wall.
The golf cart appeared to be damaged and staff later tried to move it away from the wall, but it wouldn't budge.
That day, Howard and Simon exited the golf cart laughing and seemingly unharmed.
Howard completed 17 of 21 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns, and had 16 rushes for 57 yards on the ground.
He was named the offensive MVP of the game.
Simon totaled eight tackles and one tackle for loss and was named Defensive MVP.
“I give this guy a lot of credit here,” Day said of Howard. “I think he ran the ball 16 times and we knew that was going to happen. It was the last game of the season and we were going to do this. [use all] our bullet. He really supported the team. ”
The win was Ohio State's first national championship in 10 years and first under Day.
“That’s why I started coaching,” Day said. “It's about seeing guys overcome things, learn life lessons and achieve their dreams. That's what happened tonight.”
