Sacrificing children on the altar of science: How the COVID-19 response hurt our most vulnerable

When Covid-19 was washed away on American coasts, everyone, including children, was believed to be at serious risk by top scientists in the country. However, when the threat to the child was found to be minimal, the child was suspected of being a “super spreader” instead.

“The empirical evidence was ignored, so instead officials followed theories. They created all sorts of unnatural reasons,” says David Zweig, investigative journalist and author of “Abundant Notes: Stories of American Schools, Viruses and Bad Decisions.” Ally Beth Stucky “Friendly”.

The fact that surrounding schools reopened and the status of children as “super spreaders”, cases fell in places like Europe after children returned to school did not sequentially stage scientists.

“Of course, what it suggests is that the kids weren't superspreaders and the school wasn't driving during the pandemic,” Zweig tells Stucky. “The point is that this was not dangerous and there was evidence that it was not an increase, but that it was ignored and rejected for these considered reasons.”

Mainstream media and “science” focused on the potential harms faced by immunocompromised people, but what they didn't think was how social isolation, masks and digital learning affect children in their most formative years of life.

“There's something unstable about asking children to sacrifice on behalf of adults,” Stucky told Zweig, adding that “there is essentially unfair.”

“What they probably don't understand is incredible harm to millions of children. Like you said, do you have to think about what society is like for children?” Zweig agrees.

“No one was saved by the long-term school closure. No one was saved from hiding a two-year-old. No one was saved by the desk and all the other barriers of nonsense. This was harmful.

“It goes beyond the fear of child abuse,” he says. He became more common among Covids.

“I spoke with a lot of mental health professionals for kids. Their practices exploded during the pandemic. It's not because people die, but please be very clear about it.

Politicians like Governor Andrew Cuomo (DN.Y.) have argued that their hard stance on Covid was so strict as it was worth saving one life, but Zweig knows he can't get far from the truth.

“You take one or more lives and on the surface you're trying to save that one life. It was very stupid,” Zweig says.

“Toxic empathy,” Stucky stroking the chime.
