Pro-Palestinian students rejoiced on August 29, 2024, when San Francisco State University (SFSU) announced it would divest from three arms manufacturers for failing to meet “human rights standards.”
NBC Bay Area Reported The three companies are Lockheed Martin, Palantir Technologies, and Leonardo.
The divestment decision comes after weeks of protests by pro-Palestinian students, who “camped out across the country for three weeks demanding that universities disclose and divest from companies they classify as profiting from Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories and the Gaza war.”

Caterpillar, a manufacturer of heavy equipment rather than an arms manufacturer, is also a target.

The San Francisco State University Foundation, which is “in charge of raising private donations and how to invest them,” has already confirmed that its investments in Lockheed Martin, Palantir Technologies and Leonardo have been divested, pursuant to an agreement with student protesters.
Rama Ali Kased, who teaches race and resistance studies at San Francisco State University, commented on the divestment: “We worked with the university over the summer to ensure that our investment policy was consistent with the university's values, which include social justice, economic justice and racial justice as part of the university's mission.”
