Bernie Sanders Criticizes Military Actions and War Policies
Senator Bernie Sanders, representing Vermont, recently addressed a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, called “Combodia Oligarchy.” During his speech, he conveyed a strong opinion regarding former President Donald Trump’s military announcements, stating that Trump has misrepresented the state of society. In a recent statement, Trump claimed that successful attacks had been made on several nuclear sites in Iran, specifically citing locations like Fordou, Natanz, and Esfahan.
At the rally, Sanders expressed his disbelief upon reading Trump’s comments on social media, with the crowd chanting, “There’s no more war!”
Sanders emphasized that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is incorrect in both past and present situations, asserting that the U.S. should refrain from getting involved in his conflicts. He highlighted a bipartisan coalition in Congress that criticized Trump’s military actions in Iran, calling them unconstitutional, especially since such actions require Congressional approval.
In response to Trump’s claims about military success, Sanders mentioned that the only authority to declare war lies with Congress, insisting that the president alone lacks that power. He stated, “Americans don’t want more war, don’t want more death!” urging the focus to shift towards pressing domestic issues rather than potential military engagements.
Sanders reiterated his message that the struggle for a better future must continue, expressing his determination for people to stand up and fight back for their rights. “This is our country!” he declared, rallying support against the ongoing tensions involving Iran and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
His tour, focused on combating oligarchy, has him visiting deeply Republican-held areas, aiming to mobilize citizens and emphasize local issues. Following the rally in Oklahoma, he plans upcoming events in Texas, gathering support from various democratic allies.
Sanders has long opposed military interventions in conflicts like the recent Israeli actions stemming from attacks on Gaza, labeling those decisions by Netanyahu as aggressive and detrimental. He expressed that it is essential for the U.S. to remain uninvolved in foreign military policies dictated by other nations.
As Sanders continues his tour, he reflects on the responsibility of leaders to prioritize their constituents’ wishes over aggressive foreign policies.
