Saritha Komatireddy has dedicated her career to holding criminals accountable — The Post supports her over political insider Letitia James

The Post’s Endorsement of Saritha Komatireddy

The Post strongly supports Saritha Komatireddy in the race against Attorney General Letitia James.

James has long been seen as a political figure more interested in seeking headlines and targeting opponents than fulfilling her primary responsibility to safeguard the community. Her tenure has been marked by pro-criminal policies that many believe have compromised public safety.

In contrast, Komatireddy is a dedicated prosecutor with experience in holding accountable those involved in terrorism, drug trafficking, and cybercrime. She is now committed to leveraging the state attorney general’s office to effectively combat crime, fraud, and corruption while enhancing public safety.

As a mother of two sets of twins under ten, Komatireddy has witnessed firsthand the failures of James in maintaining safety. She shared her family’s experiences, including an assault on a family member in the subway and a friend’s near-miss with a stray bullet while asleep, which highlight growing concerns about safety in the city.

“New Yorkers feel less secure now than when Tish James took office, and the evidence points to a simple fact: They are indeed less safe,” she stated.

Statistics support this accusation, showing a startling 44% increase in felony assaults in New York City since James became attorney general in 2019. The subway has seen an even more alarming 59% rise in felony assaults.

James defends herself by stating that her role is focused more on civil issues than on criminal ones, a position some see as an excuse to avoid accountability. Meanwhile, Komatireddy has identified several powers that James neglects to utilize, opting instead to pursue her personal agenda.

Furthermore, there are concerns over fiscal management under James’s leadership, such as spending over $20 million on outside legal counsel for tasks that her staff could handle, along with directing more than $54 million to nonprofits perceived as supportive of criminal activity.

Throughout her career, Komatireddy has consistently prioritized the imprisonment of those posing threats to society, earning promotions in prominent federal roles. On the other hand, James has dedicated her 25 years in elected office to initiatives that many argue undermine public safety.

Her record includes advocating for the decriminalization of minor offenses, the controversial “Raise the Age” legislation, and reforms related to bail and police oversight. She initially campaigned to prosecute former President Donald Trump, launching 66 lawsuits in a two-year period, but success in the courtroom has largely eluded her.

An internal whistleblower, Daniel Wiesenfeld, has accused her of misusing funds aimed at targeting public figures rather than focusing on necessary legal work.

James’s aggressive stance towards prosecuting police officers is contrasted by her apparent reluctance to clear them of baseless allegations. Additionally, her office has been criticized for its sluggish approach to tackling Medicaid fraud, resulting in significant losses, including some attributed to her own supporters.

In light of these factors, Komatireddy presents a strong alternative — one that aims to restore integrity and safety. Her track record is respected, showing her capability as a relentless force for justice and order. It’s clear that her vision aligns with the needs of New Yorkers, making the choice a straightforward one.
