Satellite photos show North Korea’s naval destroyer affected by unsuccessful launch

North Korea’s Failed Destroyer Launch Leaves Leaders Distressed

This week, a satellite image revealed the aftermath of a dramatic incident involving a North Korean naval destroyer, which suffered significant damage during a launch ceremony. Reports indicate that approximately 5,000 tons of the destroyer were affected, leaving the country’s leaders quite upset.

Maxar Technologies captured images showing the ship listing at an odd angle, with parts submerged in water while still partly on the launch slip. The communist regime has since covered the damaged warship with blue tarps.

Initially, it seemed that the destroyer was gearing up for its inaugural voyage, as satellite photos indicated preparations were underway. However, this effort came to an abrupt halt when the flat car transporting the ship failed during the launch. This malfunction caused the stern to become unbalanced, resulting in the bottom being crushed before the stern slipped into the water, according to state media reports.

Kim Jong-un had aimed to showcase the nation’s military prowess but instead found himself in a rather embarrassing situation on the international stage. Subsequent reports from state media highlighted Kim’s anger at the incident.

North Korean authorities also disclosed that Kim condemned military officials, scientists, and shipyard workers, attributing the mishap to “serious accidents and criminal acts” due to “absolute carelessness” and “unscientific empiricism.”

The extent of the destroyer’s damage remains unclear. However, Kim has insisted that repairs be completed before an upcoming meeting of the Communist Labour Party in June. He ominously hinted that those responsible for the blunders driven by “the irresponsibility of related officials” would face scrutiny during this meeting.

Under Kim’s leadership, North Korea has prioritized expanding its military capabilities, perceiving it as a defensive strategy against perceived Western threats. Recently, Kim supervised a test for an AI-equipped suicide drone, further emphasizing his intent to boost military production.

In a show of military might, estimates revealed that around 15,000 North Korean troops were sent to fight alongside communist allies in Russia during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. South Korea has reported that approximately 600 of these forces were reportedly killed late last month.
