Harris Yulin, Celebrated Actor, Passes Away at 87
Harris Yulin, perhaps best recognized for his role as the crooked detective attempting to extort Al Pacino’s character in “Scarface,” died on Tuesday at the age of 87.
Yulin’s manager, Sue Leibman, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he passed away from cardiac arrest in New York City. His artistic career, spanning five decades, included a variety of roles in film and television, along with six performances on Broadway. Notably, he received an Emmy Award nomination in 1996 for his work on “Frasier.”
Some of Yulin’s most notable movie roles were in films like “Clear and Present Danger,” “Training Day,” “Night Moves,” “St. Ives,” “Another Woman,” “Murder at 1600,” “Cradle Will Rock,” “Rush Hour 2,” and “Norman.”
On television, he appeared in series such as “Frasier,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and “Ozark.” His extensive television credits also include shows like “Kojak,” “Ironside,” “Cagney & Lacey,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “La Femme Nikita,” “The X-Files,” “Entourage,” “The Blacklist,” “Veep,” “Murphy Brown,” “24,” and “Billions.” He even played a judge in “Ghostbusters II,” a character whose courtroom meets a rather unusual fate.
Yulin brought an impressive blend of grace and skill to both the stage and screen. He made his Broadway debut in 1980 with “Watch on the Rhine” and also graced the stage in productions like “The Visit” in 1992 and “The Diary of Anne Frank” in 1997. His later performances included “The Price” and “Hedda Gabler” in 1999.
His final performances were featured on Netflix, particularly in “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Ozark.”
