School board chair in Florida expresses regret for acknowledging Hulk Hogan's death on Facebook

Sarah Rockwell, the chair of the Alachua County Board of Education in Florida, has come under fire for a Facebook comment she made regarding the passing of famed wrestler Hulk Hogan, which she described as the “one magazine” of the world. Her comment read, “Oh, did Hulk die? I didn’t know. Good. One Magazine in the world.” In a follow-up, she stated that Hogan had collaborated with the McMahon family to hurt labor unions and emphasized that she felt no sadness regarding his death.

After the comments garnered widespread attention online, Rockwell removed them and issued an apology. She stated, “A few days ago, I made a cruel and light-hearted comment on my personal Facebook account about a friend’s post regarding Hulk Hogan’s passing. I deeply regret making that comment and deleting it. I want to make it clear that I don’t wish harm upon anyone, regardless of differing political views.” Furthermore, she expressed concern about how her remarks could undermine her ability to effectively represent all students and families within Alachua County, reaffirming her commitment to prioritizing the needs of children and public schools.

In related news, Iowa’s Board of Education faced backlash for comments suggesting that public education isn’t merely about catering to parents’ wishes. This has stirred further discussions about the role of education and its purpose.

Hulk Hogan, whose real name was Terry Borea, passed away at 71 after experiencing cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida. He enjoyed a legendary career, as a six-time WWE champion and a prominent figure in wrestling history, being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. Hogan even made headlines at the previous Republican National Convention by endorsing Donald Trump in a rather theatrical manner, revealing a shirt that read “Trump Vance makes America Great Again.”
