School bus driver dead, 2 students injured in Tennessee highway collision

A Tennessee school bus driver was killed and two students suffered minor injuries in a crash Monday, authorities said.

A bus was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on Highway 70 near Rogersville Monday morning, news outlets reported, citing preliminary reports from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Aleita Gladson, 55, of Rogersville, died, and the two children in the car did not have serious injuries, the report said. Hawkins County Schools Superintendent Matt Hixson told news outlets the children were treated for minor injuries.

Hickson said she was heartbroken to announce the death of Gladson, a “long-time cherished member of the Hawkins County Schools team.”

The 18-year-old driver of the truck was also injured, but other details were not immediately released. The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, officials said.
