“I am honored and humbled to have been chosen by my colleagues to continue to lead Senate Democrats at this critical time for our country,” Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in a statement.

Bernie Sanders (Vermont, Virginia) becomes Outreach Chair. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) will serve as Vice Chair for Outreach. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) becomes conference secretary. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) and Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) were appointed deputy conference secretaries.
This follows Democrats suffering a crushing defeat in the aftermath of the 2024 election cycle, losing control of the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives.
“Our caucus led the way in passing historic legislation that will improve the lives of millions of Americans, and we remain focused on tackling the most pressing challenges facing our country.” Schumer reflected on the party's performance.

Meanwhile, the next Senate will have 53 seats held by Republicans and 47 held by Democrats or independents.
