As Republicans consider holding hearings to vet prosecutors in New York v. President Trump’s trial, the top Senate Democrat is pleading with Trump’s allies to move the legal process forward as he considers appealing his conviction.
“The undeniable fact is that Donald Trump was subjected to the same legal process as all Americans, was tried based on the facts and law, and was convicted by a jury of his peers,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said in a statement Friday.

“He’s now a convicted felon,” the New York Democrat added.
Speaking to reporters in New York City on Friday morning, President Trump vowed to appeal the ruling.

“As Donald Trump considers his next steps within our justice system, there must continue to be no outside political influence, intimidation or interference, and I urge Trump’s supporters and critics alike to let the law take its course,” Schumer said.

Schumer’s second statement on Trump’s sentencing comes after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan called on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and District Attorney Matthew Colangelo to appear at a hearing next month on “the unprecedented political prosecution of President Trump.” The first statement was released on the X on Thursday night.
Trump was convicted by a New York jury on Thursday of 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal payments to Stormy Daniels, the adult film star with whom he was allegedly having an affair.
