Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York has called for a federal crackdown on Zyn nicotine pouches, a move that has sparked strong opposition.
The Democratic lawmaker recently issued a “warning to parents,” saying young people are becoming hooked on nicotine pouches from social media, CBS New York reported Sunday.
“This is a bag full of problems: high levels of nicotine,” Schumer said at a news conference. “So today, I'm sending a warning to parents because these nicotine pouches appear to be trapping young children, teens, and even younger adults on site. , use social media to engage them.”

Local newspapers reported that Schumer is asking the Federal Trade Commission and Food and Drug Administration to investigate Zyn over “concerns regarding marketing and health effects.”
The news segment made the rounds on social media Tuesday, prompting strong reactions against Schumer and calls for a federal crackdown.
“Joe Biden wants to ban menthol cigarettes. Chuck Schumer wants to ban gin. The nanny state is alive and well with today's Democratic Party,” the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) wrote on X. .

“We live in a world where Joe Biden and the Democrats are allowing fentanyl to flood across the border from Mexico and China and contaminate our communities. How will Chuck Schumer respond? 'Let's go after the gin,''' said Steve Guest, a Republican communications strategist.
“Mr. Schumer is trying to convert many people into single-issue Republican voters,” wrote Mike Berg, NRSC communications director.
Other Republicans joined in opposing Schumer, including Reps. Lisa McClain of Michigan and Mike Walz of Florida.
